選択・対比を表す表現

rather than

説明

rather than は、2つを比べて「BではなくA」と一方を選ぶときに使います。

「コーヒーではなく紅茶にする」「立ち止まるのではなく歩いて向かった」のように、2つの選択肢を比べて一方を選んだ・伝えたいときに使います。

比べる2つは同じ形にそろえます。名詞どうし、-ing 形どうし、動詞の原形どうしのように形をそろえて並べます。
