比較級(-er/more)と最上級(-est/most)の作り方を解説。「taller than」「the most beautiful」など、比較表現の使い方を例文で学びます。
比較表現とは、ものの違いや程度の差を示す表現です。
比較級・最上級で『より〜』『最も〜』を表します。
短い形容詞は -er/-est、長い形容詞は more/most を使います。
不規則変化（good → better → best など）も重要です。
必要に応じて範囲を示します（the tallest in the class など）。
文の形
比較級: A + be動詞 + 形容詞-er + than B / A + be動詞 + more 形容詞 + than B
最上級: A + be動詞 + the + 形容詞-est / A + be動詞 + the most + 形容詞
ポイント
短い形容詞（1音節）は-er/-est、長い形容詞（3音節以上）はmore/mostを使います。

解説: 短い形容詞 big は -er を付けて bigger にします。子音を重ねる点に注意。
This movie is more interesting than that one.
この映画はあの映画より面白いです。
解説: 長い形容詞 interesting は more を使って比較級を作ります。
Mount Fuji is the highest mountain in Japan.
富士山は日本で最も高い山です。
解説: high の最上級は highest。the + 最上級の形で「最も〜」を表します。
文の形
同等: A + be動詞 + as 形容詞 as B
劣等: A + be動詞 + not as/so 形容詞 as B
ポイント
「AはBと同じくらい〜」、否定形は「AはBほど〜ではない」を表します。
例文
She is as tall as her sister.
彼女はお姉さんと同じくらい背が高いです。
解説: as ... as で同程度の比較を表します。2つの as の間に形容詞を入れます。
This bag is not as light as that one.
このカバンはあのカバンほど軽くありません。
解説: not as ... as で「〜ほど...ではない」という劣等比較を表します。
He can run as fast as his brother.
彼は兄と同じくらい速く走れます。
解説: as ... as は副詞（fast）にも使えます。
ポイント
比較級では than で比較対象を示します。最上級では「the + 最上級 + in/at/on + 場所・集団」または「the + 最上級 + of + 数」で範囲を明確にします。場所には主にinを使い（in the class）、チームなどにはon（on the team）、数にはof（of the three）を使います。
例文
She is the best player on the team.
彼女はチームで最も優れた選手です。
解説: チームなど所属グループを示すときは on を使います。
This is the most interesting of the three.
これは3つの中で最も面白いです。
解説: 具体的な数を示すときは of を使います。
Our classroom is much bigger than yours.
私たちの教室はあなたたちのよりずっと大きいです。
解説: much + 比較級で「ずっと〜」と差の大きさを強調できます。
